ELMHURST – The St. Charles North girls volleyball team won a dramatic, season-opening contest Tuesday at York, 27-29, 25-13, 27-25.
North coach Lindsey Hawkins credited strong serving from libero Alex Seavey (11 digs) among a host of factors in North pulling out the close win.
“They could have chosen to freak out and play less aggressive [when it was close at the end] but they chose to stay aggressive and they pulled it out, so I was really proud of them,” Hawkins said.
Taylor Krage (nine kills), Claire Anderson (six kills, four blocks), Emily Carroll (six blocks, three aces) and Taryn Dal Degan (13 assists) were among the North Stars’ main contributors.


St. Charles North d. York: The North Stars defeated York Tuesday in a tight 3-game match, 27-29, 25-13, 27-25.
Alex Seavey, the North Stars' senior libero, led her team in the third set out of a 5-point hole with some aggressive serving. She finished the match with 11 digs.
Taylor Krage and Daley Krage hit well on the outside, Taylor with 9 kills and Daley 5.
According to North Stars coach Lindsey Hawkins, Claire Anderson put up a solid block on the right side and shut down some of York's outside hitters, tallying 4 blocks and 6 kills. Junior Emily Carroll had 3 aces and 6 blocks, while the other middle, senior Sophia DuVall, totaled 2 kills and 4 blocks. Sydney Wohlert tallied 10 assists, while Taryn DalDegan had 13 assists.
The North Stars play Bartlett Thursday.

Easy win over Addison Trail

 No. 7 St. Charles North improved to 8-0 with a 25-15, 25-9 win Tuesday against visiting Addison Trail. Taylor Krage had seven kills and three blocks, Claire Anderson added five kills and Emily Carroll had two kills and four blocks. Sydney Wohlert had eight assists, Taryn Dal Degan had seven assists and Alex Seavey had five digs.
